WebHostingPad as my Wordpress hosting provider

February 7th, 2008 | by winsonlee |

Previously I mention that I will be moving my blog to a private server which gives me more flexibility in terms of the page design and the plugin that I can use for the blog. WebHostingPad package comes with unlimited domain hosting with 1700gb of space and 17,000gb of bandwidth. Before I sign up with them, I decided to ask them if they do support GD and Curl library. GD Library is used to resize pictures after uploading to the server. This library is needed if you are hosting a photo album on the server. Curl is used to pull information from webserver eg RSS and XML file. For example if you would want TheAge headline to be on your own website, you can use Curl library to extract the rss content and place it on your page. The support center got back to me in less then a day. Alas… everything i need is supported on the server.

Second point that I do take into consideration is the cost of the hosting provider. I was looking for hosting solution which is less then US5/month. But the hosting solution they provide is US5.95/month if you sign up for a year. When I click on “Order Now, I notice that their order form has something call “Coupon Code”. Decided to just google it and see if I am able to find the coupon code. To my surprise I manage to find the coupon code in one of the website. The code gives you an instant $25 discount on hosting at WebHostingPad. Instead of paying US71.40/year, now I am only paying US46.40. With the code I am actually getting a 35% discount. Now I will only be paying US3.86/month.

The next question is when I should start going with WebHostingPad. Since it is a Chinese New Year today, so decided to just order it today. When I press the submit button, it actually mention that my Credit Card cannot be processed. Called their tech centre in toronto, Canada to ask them about the error. Within the next 10 minutes, I realize that I got four emails from webhostingpad.com. It actually mention that my account is setup and my domain is ready to go. What surprises me is that when i called, it was during off working hours and they manage to get problem resolved even before the next working day. Installed Wordpress through the Fantastico control panel provided by them. Wordpress is installed painlessly. Next I will need to upload the themes and plugin that I want. The theme that I am using now is initially made for Joomla, another content management system. I change the code to make it fit into Wordpress. Now my blog is up running without much problem.

For anyone who is interested to host with WebHostingPad, drop me a comment and I’ll give you the discount coupon code.

Do you have a ftp program ? It is easier to upload files using ftp program compare to cpanel. You can try downloading software like CoffeeCup Free FTP 3.0 or CuteFTP 3.6. The link below shows you how you are able to configure the ftp software. Once you have configured it, you can upload the Nebula folder to /public_html/wp-content/themes. Do let me know if you have any problem getting the themes up running.
